WEEKLY UPDATE-Wk bg Monday 16th September 2019

Another busy week. Foundation Phase have been learning about The Enormous Turnip and had great fun outdoors with the Brecon Beacons National Park Outreach workers.

KS2 had a great time at the Brecon Regimental Museum of the Royal Welsh and looked brilliant in their ‘evacuees’ clothes. They were also excellent ambassadors for the school, as they were highly praised by the staff at the museum for their excellent manners and attitude. Well done to everyone!

Thank you to everyone who was able to help on Grounds Morning. We very much appreciate your support and the grounds are looking great!

All clubs are now running. Can I politely ask that any parents and children, who are not attending clubs, leave the school grounds promptly at the end of the day, as many of the clubs use the outdoor space. We need to close the gates, before clubs can access the school grounds. Thank you for your understanding and co-operation in this matter.

Next week is the start of our Careers Weeks for KS2. We have a number of volunteers who will be talking with the children about different career choices including: medicine, the military, veterinary practice, the police, writing for a living and many other aspects of the world of work.

ECO CLUB – As usual this lovely club is proving very popular.  In recent years we have had to divide the sessions between 2 groups of children due to the fact that we have not had any adult volunteers to help with the sessions; which means the children cannot enjoy the activities that this club offers all throughout the year.  If you are able to volunteer to help at this club we would be very grateful.

WEEKLY UPDATE-Wk bg Monday 8th July 2019

The sun has been shining and we’ve had another lovely week.

Yesterday we had our Outdoor Woodland Trust Day. The children did a variety of activities and hopefully enjoyed the day as much as we did. They were so well behaved and worked together really well. Really proud of everyone! I have attached the recipe for Campfire Bread Twists, as these were very popular and some of the children were keen to make these at home!

We’re all really excited about the outdoor classroom, which is beginning to take shape and should be ready to use by the end of next week. Thank you to everyone who has/does support the PTA, including the massive effort put in for the Green Man, as it’s due to this we are able to have these fantastic ‘extras’, which make all the difference to the children.

A massive ‘thank you‘ once again to Jenny Edwards. She has donated £600 to school this term, from her amazing plant stall! We will be asking the children what they would like to buy with this money.

End of year reports have been sent home today. Please share them with your child/ren; there is a lot to celebrate in all of the reports! There are parent comment sheets with the report, for you to complete and return to class teachers. There is an Open Evening next Thursday (11th July) when your child can share his/her work and classroom with you.

Congratulations to Little Sparks for finally securing CIW registration this week. This means the setting will now be able to apply for the 30 hour childcare offer and potentially open for longer each day, subject to demand.

Good luck to Alex Rees this weekend who is reading his way around Cardiff to raise money for the British Legion. Please see the link below, if you are able to support him.

Llangattock School Building Works: Parents’ Questionnaire

Kier and Powys County Council are reviewing the recent building works and its effects on well-being at the school. The deadline for all evidence is Monday.

In order to provide them with accurate feedback, a group of parents have put together a questionnaire.

It only takes 2 minutes to complete and can be accessed via the Llangattock School PTA Facebook site or at this address:

https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/87X9KJJ

The more responses we get, the more valuable our feedback will be.

Thank you

Building Work

This week I have been involved in several meetings with Kier, Powys and Heart of Wales Property Services to discuss the building project and highlight our concerns and issues. The Governors have also written to everyone involved expressing their concerns, dissatisfaction and disappointment. I will keep you informed of any progress.

3+Setting Places

Today we have received the information below from Powys County Council:

Reduction in Early Years Education Funded Hours

In this period of austerity, Powys County Council are facing difficult decisions as to how it uses its budget. Currently, Powys provides 12.5 hours per week of funded Early Years provision for all 3 and 4 year olds. However, from April 29th, 2019, Powys will be reducing the funded hours for Early Years education from 12.5 hours to 10 hours. This will apply to all settings that currently provide education for Early Years children.

The reasons for this change are:

1) Other local authorities currently fund Early Years education at 10 hours. Powys County Council have been funding above the National minimum level of 10 hours since establishing the Early Years provision in 2017. However, due to efficiencies which the County Council have to find in Early Years education, there is no longer the funding available to continue to fund settings for 12.5 hours per week.

2) To ensure that all children have equal access to Early Years education, all children will be entitled to the minimum 10 hours of funded provision.

From April 2019, the new Childcare Offer for Wales will be available to all settings in Powys. The offer will consist of a combination of existing Early Years education provision and a new childcare provision. Registered settings will be eligible for 10 hours of education provision and 20 hours of childcare provision.

The 3+setting is currently waiting for CIW registration and will be looking into the new childcare offer as soon as possible. Children in the 3+ setting are currently receiving just under 10 hours, so their session times will not change, but this may cause difficulties or inconvenience for those parents who were expecting an additional 2.5 hours a week, once registration is in place.

Should you have any queries concerning your child’s place at Little Sparks 3+ setting please contact Powys directly.

HELP!

Is anyone able to help us by removing and disposing of (legally!) the tyres in the top playground? There are approximately 20.

Recycling

If you have any Christmas cards you would like to recycle, please bring them into school by next Friday.

We are also continuing to recycle crisp packets, which can be brought to school in small bundles and put in the box in the main entrance.

Clubs

All clubs start next week. Children need to be collected from the usual places eg top playground for Y1/2 pupils and bottom playground for Y3-6.

Fruit money

KS2 pupils must bring in a healthy fruit snack, or 30p to buy a piece of fruit from the school fruit stall.

Appropriate Footwear

KS2 pupils would like to continue to use the school field during break and lunch times, but as you can imagine it makes for a very muddy floor! Please could your child bring old trainers/shoes to wear on the field and their school shoes to wear inside? This would really help to reduce the amount of mud inside school.
